In January of 2021, my grandmother got COVID-19 and passed away. She was married for 60+ years and had four children and twenty-something grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a wonderful woman!
I process all major life events through art. Doing some type of artwork (sometimes it’s painting, sometimes it’s drawing, this time it was illustrating) helps me work through emotions and feel somewhat productive. When she passed I started this Illustration based on an old photo from Christmas 2016 (seen below). I kept working on it for a while but it got to the point that continuing to do so made me sad, so I called it quits here. In any other situation I would like to add more shading and dimension to our faces, add some more work to the hair, improve some line work, but here we are. An ode to Cynthia Burke Adams!
